Marine Construction Piling

Piling is an essential part of any dock construction plan because the entire project itself rests on the piling’s structural integrity.

Pilings are the columns the dock or bridge is built on. They are driven or “piled” into the ground. This process must be completed by an experienced marine construction company like Yelton Construction.

Perhaps the most critical element you have to consider is the material the piling is made of because this material is exposed to the ocean environment. You want to make sure you choose piling materials that won’t rot, that have a protective barrier from destructive marine organisms, and that don’t degrade from exposure to chemicals, saltwater, and UV rays.

Wood pilings are the least expensive options in general, but they are also the most susceptible to rot and underwater decay. At Yelton Construction, we offer pilings using steel sheet, vinyl, and aluminum materials.

These piling materials can last generations because they will not rot, crumble, or rust. If you are investing in a new dock, they’re the way to go.

Piling Caps

Usually, with pilings you think of the damage coming from the water, but expensive damage can also occur on the top of the piling because of exposure to sunlight and weather. We use piling caps to block UV rays, deflect rain water, and prevent birds from roosting on pilings. Our piling caps have the same material characteristics and durability as our pilings.
